Overview

Sivasankar Palaniappan (born in 1987) is employed as a research and teaching assistant at the Institute of Environmental Engineering and Building Installations of the Poznań University of Technology.

His research focuses on studying the process of methane oxidation by type II methanotrophs, particularly the conditions that control the accumulation of PHB (biopolymer) in a pure culture system. He has a strong background in molecular microbiology, bioinformatics, and NGS data analysis, which have been instrumental in advancing his research. Moreover, he is engaged in whole genome sequencing, comparative genomics, transcriptomics, genome mining and multi-omics based strategy to determine the precise gene controls that result in adequate PHB accumulation

In addition to his scientific research, he is also concentrating on the isolation and recovery of taxonomically unique methanotrophic and non-methanotrophic bacteria, as well as the characterization of these newly discovered species.
